Yankees split 4 game set with Chicago

Yankees series recap

By Brandon B

Game 1

The Yankees opened up a 4 game set with the Whitesox in heartbreaking fashion.

The Yankees jumped out to a 4-0 lead starting in the 2nd inning when Didi scored on a wild pitch to open it up. Then Clint Frazier singled to left making it 2-0. Frazier finished this one 3-4. Which apparently wins you a ticket Triple A... Then, Gardner rocked a 2 run home run making it 4-0 in the 4th inning. And all was well...

Then disaster struck.

JA Happ, who had been solid all game long, let up in the 5th inning. A Garcia double scoring 1 and an Anderson 2 run home run quickly tied the game at 4. This an end to Happs night and it got worse from here. After Kahnle pitches a scoreless 6th, Ottavino let up the go ahead home run off the bat of Garcia which the Yankees weren’t able to come back from. A devastating loss.

Game 2

Yankees 2 Whitesox 10

After a Voit solo shot that put the Yankees up 1-0, this game was a flat out disaster. And a nightmarish finish for Yankee team chasing after their first division title since 2012.

CC was on the mound in this one and got rocked. Elroy Jimènez got the party started in Chicago with a quick 3 run home run in the first. Later in the inning, Y. Sanchez singled home another more making it 4-1 Whitesox in the first. But it got worse from there. Abreu doubled home another run in the 2nd making it 5-1. CC was looking very shaky and obviously didn’t have his best stuff. CC only lasted 4.2 in this one and was responsible for 5 ER. After a series of events made it 7-1 Chicago. Jimenez put the icing on the cake of Luis Cessa hitting another 3 run home run. His second of the game making it 10-1 Chicago.

This was a game to forget.

Game 3

WhiteSox 4 Yankees 8

The Yankees went with an opener in this one and got the job done! Chad Green went 2 innings and struck out ever batter he faced! Then Nester Cortes Jr went 5 strong of 7 strikeouts and 2 runs to lead the Yankees to a much needed win!

The Yankees scored first, and never took their foot off the gas pedal. Gary Sanchez started them off with a a 2 RBI double in the 4th. Gleyber Torres then followed with a 2 run homer later in the inning. Now it was 4-0. But this time, the Yankees wouldn’t blow it. Instead they added on some more! Torres was able to bring home another with a sac fly in the 6th while Cameron Maybin homered in the 7th making it 6-0!!

The Yankees put on an offensive clinic in this one eventually finishing with 8 runs on the board! Chapman finished this one off making for a much needed win in what looked like a lost series. As well as some much needed quality starting pitching!

Game 4

Whitesox 3 Yankees 10

The Yankees put on another powerful offensive showing dropping 10 on Chicago and splitting this 4 game set.

After falling 1-0 early, the Yankees fired back. In the 3rd inning, the Yankees exploded for 5 runs! Thanks to singles from Gardner, Urshela and Romine! Romine then doubled home Gardner and Urshela in the 5th. This trio was responsible for there first 7 runs through 5 innings putting this game out of reach. Gardner then grounded into a fielders choice making it 8-2 at that point in the 6th. Maybin homered in the 7th, and Gardner singled in Torres in the 8th. This made Urshela Romine and Gardner involved in 9/10 of there runs in this one!

On the mound, Paxton was solid in this one! He went 6 innings allowing 2 runs and struck out 7! He looked a lot different then his previous outing which was a good sign!

The Yankees split the series with Chicago and will now host the Rays in a big series with Edwin Encarnaciòn coming to the Bronx!
