Yankees Rays Series preview

By Max Grzymala

The Yankees are coming off a nice 2 win day over the lowly Orioles. The Yanks will have Another chance to take over first place in the division against the Rays in this 3 game set!

Game 1 Friday May 17th

Pitcher Preview:

It will be a match up between Ryne Stanek and CC Sabathia. Both pitchers have gotten off to very good starts this year. Stanek has an ERA under 2.45 and has looked good in the few starts he has had this season. CC has an ERA just under 3.30, he has looked dominant at times but at other times has looked wild. This should be a good pitching match up.

Keys to the game:

Keep the ball down: CC has had trouble with the long ball this year, he has allowed 8 home runs in just over 3o innings. If he can keep the ball down and command the strike zone, the Yanks should be in business.

Wait for your pitch: The Yankees are facing a good pitcher but they can handle him. The key is too work the count and when you get a pitch to hit makes sure to pull the trigger.

Game 2 Saturday May 18th

Pitching Preview

It's a rematch of last Sundays game in Masahiro Tanaka and Blake Snell. This another great pitching match up between the reigning CY Young award winner and Masahiro Tanaka one of the most consistent pitchers the Yankees have had the past few years. This should be another great pitchers duel.

Keys to the game

Trust yourself: Tanaka is one of the best pitchers in the MLB and he can go toe to toe with anyone as long as he believes it, and then he can compete with the best of them.

Hang in there: Yankee left hand hitters could be in for a long night with Snell on the mound but they just have to put the ball in play and it will go a long way to pushing the Yankees towards a win.

Game 3 Sunday May 19th

Pitcher Preview

It'll be Charlie Morton going for the Rays in the final game of the 3 game set. Morton is having a terrific year. He is 4-0 and has an ERA of 2.32. Morton has only allowed 2 home runs in just over 50 innings pitched this year. The Yankees have not decided their starting pitcher for this game yet.

Keys to the game

work the count: Charlie Morton has been great this season and the only area he has struggled with is walks. He has allowed 21 walks in about 50 innings so if the Yankees can work the count they get Morton to pitch himself into trouble.

Location: Yankee Stadium

First Pitch: 1:05 PM ET

This will be a tough series for the Yanks, but if all goes well the Yankees could be sitting in first place! Lets get this series win!
