Yankees drop 3rd game to the O’s and fall to 1-2 on the new season

The Orioles defeated the Yankees 7-5 and took the series win 2-1. This loss is defeating and really upsetting for the Yankees who have high aspirations for this season and losing to previous 47 win team is not getting off to a good start per day. But this isn’t something to panic about. The Yankees had a lackluster start to the 2018 season and fans were going into a frenzy. But the team rallied back and won an even 100 games. So while this isn’t something to lose sleep over tonight, here are a few things that the Yankees struggled with that led to them losing to Baltimore today:

Leaving men stranded on base

The Yankees had there fair share of opportunities at the plate today and throughout this series. The Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position stranding 14 on base. They stranded the bases loaded twice and couldn’t get it done. They railed back in the 9th but it was too little too late leaving 2 on the base paths as Tulo struck out to end it.

Pitching

After losing ace Luis Severino to start the year, the Yankees knew they’d be short handed for the start of the year rotation wise. And today, Happ really stunk it up. He gave up 4 ER in 4 innings to a weak Baltimore lineup. Tarpley gave up a 2 run home run in the 8th which was too much for the Yankee offense to handle.

Positives:

While the Yankees lost, DJ LeMahieu was looking really good today picking up an RBI in the 9th and putting together an all around solid performance. Gary Sanchez belted a home run in the 7th inning for his first of the new season and Brett Gardner put together an 11 pitch at bat which led to a walk with the bases loaded and 2 outs.

While the Yankees lost this series bad, they can and will bounce back. It starts tomorrow as the Yankees host Detroit for a 3 game series.
