Yankees down Angles in 14 inning marathon 4-3

By Brandon B

YANKEES win!! The Yankees wear down the Angles in 14 innings edging out a 4-3 win! The Yankees advance to 12-10 on the season while practically fielding a triple A lineup! They pick up a good win on the west coast!

Luke Voit started things off with a solo home run in the first inning that went 405 ft to center field! After J.A. Happ let up a 2 run shot, Gleyber Torres tied things up again with a sac fly in the 3rd inning. After that, the Yankee bats went quite and besides a Gio Urshela single in the 4th, the Yankees wouldn’t get another one until the 12th inning. In the 12th, Clint Frazier led it off with a double. And Gio Urshela brought Frazier home with a sac fly to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. However the Angles tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a single to center scoring a run. Fast foward again to the 14th inning, where Gio Urshela came up clutch once again

JA Happ settled down after allowing an early two run home run to Johnathan Lucroy. He threw 7 innings allowing just those two runs and struck out 5 only surrendering 3 hits! Ottavino threw 2 scoreless frames while Kahnle and Cessa combined to pitch two more scoreless innings to keep the Yankees in the game. Chapman came into the 12th with the lead and did not have that by the end of the inning allowing one run and giving the Angles another life. Holder pitched the final two innings of the marathon and earned himself the win!

The Yankees move to 12-10 on the year and play LA Tuesday for game two of this four game set!
