The Yankees take 2 out of 3 in inter league clash with the Manny Machado led Padres
By Brandon B

Game 1
Yankees 5 Padres 2
Manny Machado returned to the Bronx for the first time in a Padres uniform and was received with boos from the crowd. The Yankees went with an opener in this one with Chad Green and he went 1 inning and struck out the side. The Yankees were able able to take care of business in this one taking game 1 5-2.
After Chad Green came out, the Yankees sort of ran into some trouble. Hale came in and quickly allowed 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning putting the Yankees in an early deficit. But the Yankees weren’t down for long... The Yankees came back in there half of the second and mashed 2 home runs to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead! The first off the bat of Clint Frazier. Which was a shot to left which put the Yanks on the board. Then Brett Gardner hit a 2 run shot scoring Gio Urshela giving the Yankees the lead! A lead they wouldn’t give up. There wouldn’t be another score until the 8th inning, which was a home run off the hot bat of Gary Sanchez making it 4-2 and giving NY some insurance. Cameron Maybin added on that inning making it 5-2 with an RBI single.

The Yankees went with the opener today making it a bullpen day. And the bullpen did the job in this one. After Hale went 4 innings reliving Chad Green, the Yankees went with the big guns and shut down this San Diego lineup. Ottavino, Kahnle, Britton and Chapman combined the rest of the game to allow 0 runs. This was a big reason for another Yankee win.
Game 2
Padres 5 Yankees 4
The Yankees dropped a tough one in a comeback attempt that fell just short.
The Yankees put a red hot Masahiro Tanaka on the bump for this one and he was a lot different in this game then in previous May starts. And not in a good way. In the first inning, Masa quickly surrendered 4 runs thanks to Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer. But thankfully, Tanaka didn’t let it bother him, and he continued to try and keep the Yankees in the game going 5 more innings of 1 run ball. He struck out 7 but allowed 4 earned runs and allowed 9 hits in his outing. Aaron Boone then decided to not go to a top reliever and bring in Joe Harvey who got himself into trouble. Luis Cessa got out of his mess but the Yankees still weren’t able to comeback in this one.
Offensively, the Yankees got on the board for the first time in the 4th inning with a homer from Gary Sanchez. At this point it was 4-1. Then in the 7th, the Yankees started to cut the deficit and begin what was looking like another comeback. Overcoming some questionable calls from the home plate umpire, the Yankees were able to capitalize on the Padres bullpen when DJ LeMahieu delivered a 2 RBI bases loaded single making it 5-3. Then later in the inning, Aaron Hicks grounded into a fielders choice that scored a run making it 5-4. But the Yankees weren’t able to get another run to tie the game and fell short in this one eventually losing 5-4.
Game 3
Yankees 7 Padres 0
Chris Paddack made his first start in Yankee stadium and the Yankee offense gave him a warm welcome mashing back to back homers in the first inning.
The Yankees got after Chris Paddack today early and often. In the bottom of the first, DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit lead off with back to back home runs giving the Yankees an early 2-0 lead! Urshela then followed with a home run making it 3-0 in the 2nd! In the 5th, Brett Gardner hit a sacrifice fly giving them a 4-0 lead and Cameron Maybin was able to score making it 6-0 off a throwing error by the Padres catcher Hedges. Gleyber Torres then put a cherry on top with a solo shot making it 7-0 in the 7th inning!
Entering this game, Chris Paddack had only allowed 28 hits and 4 home runs in 51.1 innings pitched. (9 starts) In this game alone, the Yankees got 5 hits within the first 9 batters and hit 3 home runs off Paddack. This Yankee offense has been incredible and it’s crazy to think of what these guys are doing with a lot of stars on the IL.

James Paxton came back for his first start after landing himself on the IL. And he was excellent in the 4 innings he pitched. Big Maple still had a no hitter when he was removed. He hadn’t allowed a run OR a hit while walking 2 and striking out 7 in his 4 innings of work. He came out due to his pitching limit since he was on the IL. Still very encouraging from Paxton come back looking strong! The bullpen continued his great work, keeping the Padres scoreless throughout the game! A great shoutout win and another series win for the Yankees!

The Yankees win another series vs the well improved Padres as they continue there hot streak! They continue to sit atop the AL east; injured and all, and will take this momentum into a huge 4 game division clash with the rival Boston Red Sox!
